Martha Slater
About Martha Slater
A lifelong resident of Stonington, CT, Martha Slater brings a rich and diverse background to her role as Dance Director and Instructor at Allure Dance Studios. With a foundation rooted in classical ballet—starting at the age of three—Martha’s early training also encompassed jazz, tap, and modern dance, setting the stage for a uniquely versatile dance career.
Background
Her passion for performance extended beyond the studio, with active participation in numerous dance musicals and theatrical productions. In addition to her artistic talents, Martha excelled in competitive gymnastics and was part of a synchronized swimming team that earned the first Olympic gold medal in the sport—an achievement that deeply influenced her approach to movement, athleticism, and expression in dance.
Over the years, Martha has choreographed and directed countless children’s talent shows and dance productions throughout Connecticut, nurturing the next generation of performers with creativity and care.
Martha’s personal love for competitive ballroom dance shines through in every class she teaches. She competes in American Smooth, Rhythm, and Showcase divisions, and alongside her dance partner Mekhael Srour, she was a finalist in the U.S. Stage Tango Championship in 2014, 2015, and 2016 in San Francisco, California. Their passion for Argentine Tango led them to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where they proudly represented the U.S. in the 2014 World Tango Championship.
Martha credits much of her artistic growth to her mentors, Omar and Monica Ocampos and Maximiliano Cristiani, whose training continues to inspire her evolution as both a dancer and instructor.
Known for her gentle, patient, and intuitive teaching style, Martha helps her students build confidence and unlock their natural rhythm, whether they are complete beginners or aspiring competitors. She believes in guiding each dancer to discover their own voice through movement and ensures that every lesson is both joyful and transformative.
When she’s not in the dance studio, Martha is a dedicated registered nurse, a profession that reflects her compassion, discipline, and unwavering commitment to others.

Martha’s dual background in dance and healthcare brings a unique empathy and insight to her teaching. She is passionate about creating a welcoming environment where all dancers—regardless of experience—can thrive, express themselves, and fall in love with the art of movement.
