Meet Los Ocampo: World-Renowned Tango & Folklore Masters
Mónica Romero and Omar Ocampo, known globally as Los Ocampo, are a celebrated Argentine tango couple admired for their powerful stage presence, exceptional choreography, and unmatched teaching expertise. Together since 1984, they’ve captivated audiences across continents and played a key role in elevating tango and Argentine folklore on the world stage.
They were integral members of the legendary Mariano Mores show for many years, with Omar Ocampo choreographing several acts—including the iconic “Strip-Tease” transformation from gaucho to compadrito, a piece originally created by master Chúcaro especially for him.
In 1986, they starred in "The Copes Tango Show" by tango legend Juan Carlos Copes, achieving great success in Puerto Rico. In Buenos Aires, they performed in prestigious venues such as El Viejo Almacén, Michelángelo, and the Sheraton Hotel, often with their own tango and folklore dance company.
From 1994 to 2004, Los Ocampo toured internationally with the acclaimed show Tango Pasión by Mel Howard, alongside the Grammy-winning Sexteto Mayor. Their performances graced world-renowned stages including:
The Herodian Acropolis (Athens)
Teatro Sistina (Rome)
Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (Paris)
The Kremlin Theatre (Moscow)
Coconut Grove Theatre (Miami)
And many more across Europe, Asia, and the Americas
With decades of global experience, Los Ocampo are celebrated not only as performers but also as passionate educators. They regularly teach at international tango festivals and conduct workshops in tango and Argentine folklore. They were among the first to introduce traditional folk dances like Zamba, Chacarera, and Malambo to audiences in Europe.
As members of the permanent jury of the Tango Buenos Aires Dance World Cup, they continue to shape the future of tango.
One of their standout productions, "GAUCHO’S", blends traditional and contemporary Argentine music with the vibrant spirit of folklore dance—showcasing their creative vision and cultural pride.
